I sent out an email recently asking who was planning on doing the Open and I got several responses back asking, ‘What is the open?’
The CrossFit Open is the first stage of the world wide competition called the CrossFit Games. The winner is crowned The Fittest Person On Earth.
The way the competition works is every Thursday for 5 weeks a workout is announced. Then you complete that workout and submit your score to the CrossFit Games website. After 5 weeks the top 50 or so men and women in the region will be invited to regionals, and the winners from regionals go to the CrossFit Games.
It’s really a pretty awesome thing, because it’s truly anybody’s game. Any person working out in their garage could submit videos and make it to regionals, then qualify for the CrossFit Games.
Of course, you have to be an amazing athlete to qualify for the games….
But what’s cool about the whole experience is you can submit your scores and see where you stack up in the region and in the world. I’m doing the open, I no for a fact, I will not qualify for the games, but I still like to know how I stack up to the people in my age group around the world. It’s a pretty neat experience.
We will be doing the Open workouts for the gym workout of the day the Friday after it’s announced, so if you want to be judged and actually submit a score go to www.games.crossfit.com and you can register to be a part of it.
Remember that we will be out of town for the first workout, so if you’re planning on participating let me know, we’ve made arrangements for you to be able to do it at another gym.
