4-19-16… Micro Nutrients Part 2 Magnesium….

I talked about this last week and wanted to continue the discussion.  We spend a lot of time talking about macro nutrients in our gym.  That is protein, carbohydrates and fats.  What we don’t spend a ton of time on in micro nutrients.  Those are vitamins both fat and water soluble, minerals, and phyto nutrients.

Today I want to continue the discussion by talking about Magnesium.  This is a great supplement, and in my experience almost everyone who has been blood tested for it in the professional athlete realm is deficient in it.  Our soil simply just doesn’t provide enough nutrients to supply it in our food.  There are a world of benefits to magnesium supplementation.  Here is a small list of some of the things that Magnesium can do for you.

  • Supports nerve transmissions
  • Body Temperature regulation
  • Detoxification
  • Healthy Bones and Teeth
  • Aids in absorption of Calcium
  • Reduces PMS
  • Improved parathyroid function
  • Boosts absorption of B6
  • Helps prevent and reverse Osteoporosis
  • Prevents CVD
  • Regulates HBP
  • Prevents Type 2 diabetes
  • Aids in carbohydrate metabolism
  • Relaxes all muscles in body, helping with recovery
  • Allows for neurological balance, calming affect which leads to more NREM deep sleep
  • Helps with regular bowel movements

The two major benefits that I see from Magnesium supplementation is regular bowel movements, and deep sleep.  If you have problems going regularly, this will help you stay regular.  That’s a key component for health.

The benefit I love the most though is the deep sleep.  It’s a noticeable difference when I supplement Magnesium and when I don’t.  When I used to measure my deep sleep, I’d see a multi hour difference in deep sleep, so I highly recommend this supplement.

The brand that we use is Stress X Magnesium.  You can find it on our shelf and it looks like this:
