Many times we confuse can’t and won’t and it can be extremely disempowering. Can’t refers to what is not possible for you to do, won’t refers to something you are capable of doing but just choose not to do; you aren’t willing to exert the effort.
There are plenty of things that we think we can’t do but if someone offered us 5 million dollars to accomplish it we’d jump at the chance. Dialing in nutrition is one of those things, or showing up to the gym 3 times a week etc.
We look at our situation and we decide that ‘can’t’ before we actually try and in that instance the reality is we decided that we won’t do it. Growth does not occur in the land of comfort. In order for us to grow we must choose things that make us uncomfortable. According to Dusan Djukich in his book Straight Line Leadership he says it all comes down to this:
1) What comfort choices do I need to give up?
2) What growth choices do I need to take on?
‘People don’t get frustrated about what they’re not capable of doing. People get frustrated over knowing what they are capable of doing and are still choosing comfort over action. They choose comfort over commitment- the commitment to do what is required.’
Are you choosing comfort? Are you making choices to grow? Deciding you can’t or are you deciding you won’t?
