I recently did a podcast interview where we were talking about CrossFit business. We were talking about work/ life balance, and I discussed how I didn’t think there was such a thing as work/ life balance. I just think there are peaks and valleys, or it swings on a pendulum. You work hard towards something and then back off some, and then work hard again. I also mentioned that business has been crazy lately, and I worked around 90 hours last week. Then we talked about how last week I saw my kids Wednesday morning and didn’t see them again until Friday night. His question was then, ‘Well why do you do it? What motivates and drives you.’
My answer was people’s stories. The stories of how we positively have changed there lives. In the boot camp alone, we’ve had 3 people get off of their diabetes medication. That’s freaking amazing! Last week I had 7 different Facebook posts of people showing their results.
Here are some recent posts I’ve seen:
‘This is going to be a bit long, but important for de-bunking all the Paleo naysayers we’ve discussed.
Our company provides free health screenings once per year. I literally just got back from mine. This time last year, I was doing a Whole30 but not exercising. My levels weren’t awful, but there was room for improvement. Today, my levels are all within the recommended ranges with significant improvement from last year. The biggest change was their Cardiac Risk Ratio, of which the recommendation was to be below a 3.5. Last year, it was a 3.4. This year, it’s 2.5!
Tell all the haters to shove it! grin emoticon Thank you for everything you guys doJustin Emmons and Krystal Durfee!! ‘

‘Is this really me?? Almost unbelievable!! 6 months in… 67lbs gone…. lifetime commitment… A big thank you to my CrossFit Family…. Much stronger together!’
‘I just wanted to say that I am really enjoying your gym. You have a fantastic and supportive staff and I love the structure of all the classes. I feel like even in the 2 weeks I have been coming, I have learned tons of things I never thought I would be able to do and can already tell that I’ve made improvements in my performance (example rowing lol Monday’s WOD kicked my butt but I stayed consistent at a 2:15-2:20 pace). ‘
‘I’m not sharing these to toot my own horn, but just to give examples of why we do what we do. We do it because we love you. We want to see you win. We want to see you be successful. Stories like these are what we live for. It’s why we can work 17 hours in one day and end the day grateful. I am so grateful for the opportunity to help you. Please keep striving, and please keep the stories coming.’
Keep up the great work, I’m here for you! #whenyouwinIwin #grateful
