I read somewhere that there is an enormous amount of people struggling with some sort of mental health issue in the United States. It’s something like at least 30% of the population. With people being home more and not active, I would venture to say that it’s most likely a lot higher than 30%.
Suicides are crazy high as well. I get it. I understand depression. I’ve struggled with that in the past in my life. I’ve also been very close to suicide so I feel like I have an understanding of how one can feel.
I believe that a great many number of suicides are related to feelings of insignificance. Human beings need to feel like they matter to at least one person if not more. I think many people believe they are insignificant due to external focus and comparison rather than looking internally at what your gift is. Everyone has gifts that they are born with. For some people, it’s a gift of intelligence that can solve complicated mathematical equations. For some, it may be they are really funny. For others it may be the fact that they are really great listener and empathizer. For some, it may be they are really good and loyal friends.
These gifts don’t have to be something huge, but they are all important. I think we all should search within ourselves, and focus on what we are good at. Double down on that. We all have gifts, and when you are using your gifts, that will lead to significance.
I know there is more to it than that, but I think it’s a great start. You never know what someone’s personal struggle is, but if you can shine a light to them on their gifts, I guarantee you can brighten their day. Let’s focus on the good in others and bring some positivity into this world we are living in.
