8-9-19… Are You Too Comfortable?

I sent this post in an email, but I thought in case you didn’t read it, I’d post it here because I think it could be helpful for you….

Today I want to talk about complacency. What does that mean you ask? It means that you’ve become comfortable and when you’re comfortable, you are stagnant.

This can happen in many different areas of your life. You see, humans are naturally inclined to take the easy route.

It’s not your fault, it’s human nature, so when we become comfortable, we like to coast and stay there.

The problem with complacency is that it’s a lie to ourselves. It has an insidious onset, and can destroy what you’ve built. In reality, when we are coasting, when we become comfortable, we have stopped growing.

There is no progression when you’re comfortable. If you’re idle you’re not going forward, and in most things if you’re not growing, if you’re not progressing you are actually regressing.

Fitness is a perfect example.

If you’re not making every effort to push past your comfort zone, you’re coasting, and when you’re coasting you’re actually moving backwards. The human body requires stress to progress.

Growth begins at the end of your comfort zone, so I want to encourage you to do something uncomfortable today. Right now. Commit to doing something that makes you a little uneasy, something that you’ll have to stretch to accomplish.

What’s great about growth and continually progressing is that it compounds. If you push yourself a little further today, then tomorrow you are starting a little further ahead of where you were yesterday.

We know this intuitively, but we never really think about it. We aren’t intentional about progress and making sure we are pushing past our comfort levels.

Let me know your thoughts. I’d love to hear what you’re doing to push past your comfort levels? Where have you been complacent and what are you doing about it? How can I help?
