Athlete Spot Light- Beverley

Beverley, we are so proud of your hard work and everything you have accomplished!

First Name & Last Initial- Beverley B

Hometown– Munford, TN

Age– 48 Years Old

Occupation– Dispatcher

When did you first start CrossFitting? –  December 2012

When did you first start training at CFB? –   December 2012

Favorite WOD?

I like most of them ? most of the time!  If nothing else, the sense of achievement when it?s all over is worth the struggle to complete it!

Least Favorite WOD?

That would have to be MARY!!!!  5 Hand Stand Push Ups, 10 Total Pistols, 15 Pull Ups ? AMRAP 20 minutes ? that?s a KILLER WOD!  (The other ones that are horrible is anything with running backwards ? and anything that has more than a 1K row in it!!! LOL)

Tell us about your sports & fitness background.

I hated going to the gym.  I would walk in and do minimum effort and then go home ? that?s if I actually got through the door.  I love to ride horses and swim but that?s it ? until I found CrossFit Bartlett.  Then my whole attitude to sports and fitness changed ? now I love going to the gym ? and walk through the door as often as possible ? usually 5 days per week.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

I knew that most of the law enforcement academies were using CrossFit as their primary fitness program and so when I failed the trooper agility last November I decided to contact CrossFit Bartlett and go and see what it was all about.  I started out on two days a week, went to three days and now I?m unlimited ? and try and go in 5 times a week as often as possible.  I can?t even remember my first WOD anymore, but I know that I felt an amazing sense of accomplishment when I was done ? and that feeling is what keeps me coming back.  Even on days when things don?t go so well, you know that you have done something and that tomorrow is another day.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? (before / after)

I wasn?t particularly overweight but I didn?t have ANY upper body strength and no stamina and my running was horrible!  I have slimmed down and now have muscles and abs!  I feel so much better in myself and my fitness level is way up.  My clothes all fit better and I?m back in a size 7 jeans!

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

My whole attitude to my life has changed.  Instead of being afraid of things I thought I couldn?t do, I approach them with an attitude that I can do anything I tell myself I can do.  The agility test that I took last November that set this course of action in motion was faced again in September.  I passed it with flying colors ? needed to be less than 4 minutes and I did it in 3.25 minutes.  At 48 years old, I was extremely proud to have completed it that well.  The ?don?t quit? attitude has become a way of life for me ? and something that I instill into others around me.  I can do chores more easily, ride my horses better, and know that whenever I need to move something heavy or even mow the lawn I can do it without wearing myself out.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFB moments.

Passing my CFB Level 1 test has to be one of my favorite moments at CrossFit Bartlett.  I had been trying to get each section passed and some were just too difficult ? and then, all of a sudden, I could do it!  The coaches pushed me to accomplish this ? and it has to be one of my proudest moments!

Any advice for people just getting started?

Don?t be afraid of CrossFit!  It is all scaled to your ability and as you get better you will be able to do more and more.  It is an excellent way to work out because not only does it work on every aspect of your fitness and health, you always have people to encourage and help you along the way.  The camaraderie of a CrossFit gym is awesome ? you don?t get that in a regular gym!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

I am an excellent horsewoman ? improved from CrossFit too ? and ride and compete as often as I possibly can.  I also love to swim when I have the time.  Other than those two things, I have little time for anything else ? work, school, CrossFit Bartlett, horses, and a teenage daughter ? and at some point I sleep and eat!
