Our we still stuck on the fact that losing pounds is the most important thing?
Why am I having clients come up to me telling me that their doctor said that according to their BMI they need to lose weight? Why are we still using the BMI?
According to the BMI I’m obese. When are we going to get the clue that BMI is not a good indicator of health and fitness. If you think it is, it’s not your fault, we’ve been led to believe it is.
Also, if I drop 10 lbs of fat off of you and add 15 lbs of muscle you’ll be drastically more healthy, in better shape, stronger, and 5lbs heavier.
Moreover, we get so concerned with weight. Monday I went for a 5 mile run during the middle of the morning. I weighed myself before and after the run and lost 5lbs while I was running. It was just water.
People, please listen to me!!! Weight on the scale is not your answer. Or at least it’s only part of the picture. Let’s look at measurements. Let’s look at before and after pics. Let’s take a real body composition and see how much fat you have.
Then we can talk about real progress. If you’ve lost 4 inches and are 5lbs heavier please don’t complain to me that you’re gaining weight. You’re making progress.
Stepping off my soapbox now. Have a great week!
