I was having a conversation the other day with a member who is a public speaker. He gives talks all the time, and is extremely good at it. The conversation was really funny because he was telling me that he uses his CrossFit app on his iPhone when he gives a talk. He went on to explain that when he hits the timer it counts of 3?2?1? GO and that’s when he gives his speech. He knows how long he has to talk, so essentially it’s an AMRAP of words for 20 minutes. CrossFit has carried over into his regular life.
Last night, I was bathing my two kids and realized I do the same thing all the time. It’s subtle sometimes but it happens a lot. I bathe my kids for time. My time with them is usually pretty finite, so I must spend as much of it as possible with them, and don’t like taking an hour doing bath time. Daddy does baths quickly. I don’t count off 3?2?1?GO but I do, in essence, do it for time. I find CrossFit carries over in all aspects of my life, and it’s all positive.
Whenever I run into something that is going to be time consuming or really hard, I just think, ‘oh this is just like doing Murph or Filthy 50. Nothing is worse then those.’ If something is going to be painful emotionally but end pretty quickly, I compare it to Fran.
Where does CrossFit carry over in your life outside of nutrition and exercise? What positive aspects have you gained from making CrossFit a habit?
