I went to breakfast with my family including my grandpa the other day. My grandpa is ‘on a diet.’ Personally I hate that mantra because it implies that you’re going to go off of it eventually in which case you’ll regress back to where you were before you started you diet, but I digress….
We went to breakfast, and we all ordered our food. The funny thing is, my normal nutrition is fairly similar to my grandpa’s ‘diet.’ This includes low carbohydrate consumption especially processed carbohydrates. Well they brought rolls to the table, and we ordered our food. My grandpa ate the rolls and ordered a sweet tea to drink.
Obviously there’s a ton of carbohydrates in both those things, so it negated what he was trying to do for his diet right then. I ordered 4 eggs over easy with some sausage and coffee. My meal was fine for the nutrition I was trying to accomplish.
This article is by no means written to blast my grandpa, it’s more of an example of most people everyday and why we fail to achieve what we want. When we got into the car, my grandpa said, ‘Well I blew my diet today.’ My response was, ‘well you could’ve made better choices at that restaurant and stayed within your ‘diet’ parameters, and you didn’t blow your diet, you can go right back on it the next meal, and the next day.’
My point is this. We make choices everyday, that will either progress us towards our goals, or regress us away from our goals. We do this with nutrition. We do this with activity. We do this with training and recovery. Our day is filled with thousands of choices that are progressing us or regressing us.
If you make more choices that progress you then you’ll achieve your goals. It’s ok to backslide sometimes. That’s life. But you didn’t blow anything, and it’s no reason to quit, or give up. Just overall have the discipline to get back on the horse and continue the progression. If you progress more then you step back you’ll achieve your goals. The more choices you make in the positive the faster you’ll get there.
But always know that it’s YOUR choice one way or the other. Which choice are you going to make today?
