11-17-17… The Most Important Priority…

I just sent out a check in email to one of our former members.  I do this time to time to see how people are doing who aren’t members anymore.

This was this person’s response:

‘Lazy, mostly due to stress. I can not force myself to find time to workout with other things creating so much pressure.’

I’m not writing this in the blog to call that person out, but rather to coach each of you.  How many of you have been in the same boat?

I know I have.  I get it.  People think that I own a gym so I probably work out all day.  Nothing could be further from the truth….

Aside from being a business owner (ask any entrepreneur how crazy stressful and busy that is; 80 hour work weeks anyone?), the gym is ALSO my office.

So while many of you build in your work day and gym time after work, my gym is also my work.  There are many times where I try to get a workout in and a customer walks in and needs me for something.  Yesterday in the middle of my lifting cycle, I got a phone call that I had to send over a paper for our new group health insurance plan and it was needed right then.  I had to stop lifting, go and put out the fire, then come back warm up again and finish my workout.

My point is, I get it. We are all human.  We all have things that we need to do, and things that press on us, and can potentially take priority over exercise, but here is the coaching that I gave this person and that I’m giving you….

Our most important client is ourself.  I know it sounds cliche’ but it really is true. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

If you had a client or person you had to meet three times a week in order to make a couple of million dollars for the next couple of years would you make the time to meet that person?

Of course you would.

That person is you. Make a meeting with yourself. You’ll feel better about yourself. You’ll make better choices because your head will be more clear. You’ll be able to think clearer. You’ll have more energy. You’ll live longer. We all know the benefits of training but few of us make it a priority.

I am guilty of this as well.

For me to be successful I have to block out my week and I literally schedule work out times in like it’s an important meeting with a person who is going to pay me a million dollars. When I do that and don’t make concessions I do very well. When I start prioritizing other things it’s easy for me to fall off.

What are you going to do over the next couple of weeks to meet with the most important person in your life?
