6-24-20…”I’ll Try”

I hear this a lot….

I’ll try to do this or that.  We say it all the time.  He gave it the old college try.

Here’s the deal when you say you’ll try, it means you’ll never do it.

Hang with me here. Picture this scenario:  You loan a friend $100.  Your friend then tells you he’ll ‘try’ to pay you back.  Now, are you ever going to get your money?  Perhaps, but it’s highly unlikely.

The same goes for other things in our life.  We say we will try because we don’t want to fail, and are scared of how it feels to fail, so we give ourselves an out, ‘Well at least I tried.’

From now on, I want you to try a different vocabulary and mindset.  Instead of saying you’ll try to do something, make a decision to do it.  Decide that it needs to be done and then do it.  You don’t try to pay your car note, or your mortgage/ rent, you just do it because it has to be done.  You’ve decided that it will be a priority.  You don’t try to feed your kids, you decide to make it a priority.

Whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish.  Don’t try, decide to do your perfect effort.  Give it everything you’ve got.  You may not make it and that’s ok, but at least you know you gave it your all.

To quote one of my favorite movie franchises, Star Wars…

‘There’s no try, only do or do not.’
