6-29-17… A PR is a PR….

Yesterday I wrote about giving your perfect effort, and I thought it’d be a good time to discuss some of my lifting.

You see, the longer you train, that slower and slower the gains.  What I mean by that is, when you’re first starting out, you can regularly get 15lb and 20lb PR’s on your back squat or a 30 second PR on a bench mark workout.  When you’ve been training as long as I have, sometimes I train for 6 months to get a 5lb PR on my back squat.  Sometimes I train for 6 months and don’t PR at all on my backsquat.

This actually happened.  I trained for a year last year and didn’t PR my back squat.  Recently, I went through the A12 program and hit a 5lb PR on my back squat.  For me that’s tremendous.  It was 12 weeks of work that translated into a 5lb PR.  I could’ve said, ‘well it’s only 5lbs,’ but instead I was elated! I worked my tail off for every pound of that 5lb PR and I celebrated like crazy.  

On the other hand, I PR’d my Fran time by 30 seconds.  You should know that is an incredible feat at my level.  I had been stuck at that same score since April of 2015, so I was over the moon elated about that.  I write all of this not to brag on myself but to merely use myself as an example.  The work that I’ve been doing while not sustainable long term was very good at giving me a boost at what I needed.  I highly recommend if you’re thinking about that A12 program did fantastic for me.  Let me know if you have questions.
