Coffee….

An interesting article came out the other day about coffee.  If you haven’t seen it you can click here!

Here’s some cool things about coffee….

The chemical make up of caffeine looks very similar to adenosine.  Adenosine binds to receptors in the brain and make you tired, so when caffeine binds to them instead it blocks the binding of adenosine keeping you more alert.

According to their research the best times to drink coffee are between 9:30AM-11:30AM and 1:30PM-5:00PM due to the circadian rhythm of cortisol.  Although I would argue that after 3 would negatively impact your sleep.  They didn’t go into this in the article.

There’s also some research that show a correlation with lower risks of death with coffee drinkers.  There are theories as to why this is, the poly phenols and anti oxidants in coffee are believed to have an effect.

Of course, there is also a lethal dose of the drug which is about 100 cups of coffee in 4 hours.

Either way, I enjoy a few cups of coffee a day.  I think it helps me stay awake and keep focused.  I think good high quality coffee isn’t a bad thing, but like any drug, it can be used, abused and addictive, so be aware.

What do you think?  Do you guys drink coffee?
