What’s the it you ask? Death. Yes I know it’s morbid and nobody likes to think about it, but really when you do think about it, it can become quite liberating. Here’s what I mean…
EVERYONE dies. We all think we are invincible. We all don’t like to consider death but it happens to all of us. If we realize that, than you can start focusing your energy where it counts. Think about, someone just cut you off in traffic and your kids are in the car talking with you. Normally if this happened to me, I’d get all pissed off, and start yelling, forget about the conversation I was having with my kids for a minute, and then when I came back to it, I’d still be stewing over what happened. Does that sound familiar?
Instead of being present for my children, I’m focusing on something negative and using my energy for that. Is it worth it? If we view the world with the lens of, ‘Hey I very well might not be here tomorrow,’ then we know it’s not worth it. It’s more worth it to be present with my kids.
We’ve got this Whole Life Challenge thing coming up soon and it has made me think about my own life. Am I doing the things I need to do to make my life as successful as possible? Am I spending too much time worrying about the wrong things?
Realizing one’s own mortality makes you realize and appreciate the smaller things in life. How do you guys feel about it?
