Setting Yourself Up For Success….

Many times the keys to your success is setting yourself up for it.  What do I mean by that?  Let me tell you a story….

I am a sugar addict.  If sugar is in the house, I have to eat it.  I’m being totally serious and not joking here, I understand drug addiction fully, because if sugar is around I can not control myself with it.  In order for me to be most successful, I can’t have that stuff around my house.  After Halloween, I went to town on Reeses Peanut Butter cups until they were gone.  We have a jar on the counter full of nuts, usually almonds, walnuts etc.  This past week my wife mixed in with the almonds, chocolate covered raisins.  I have been unable to control myself.  Every day when I get home, that’s the first thing I do is grab a handful, and it’s usually followed by 4-5 more handfuls before the night is over.  In order for me to ensure my success I need to not have that stuff so easily accessible.

It’s important to take stock in your what you’re doing and look for opportunities to set yourself up for success.  In my case the best thing to do would be remove the jar of chocolate covered raisins from the house.  In your case, it may be not have the box of cookies in the pantry, or the pint of ice cream in the freezer.  If you do it one day a week it’s fine, but if you do it every day, then you are not setting yourself up for success.

What can you do in your situation to make yourself more successful?
