I was talking with a member the other day and a funny thing happened….
He told me that he made a decision that no matter what was on the board he is just going to show up and do it. He will not fear a WOD or a movement anymore, he will just come anyway, and his fitness has greatly improved.
The reason why that is funny is because this guy has been a member for 3 years and is one of our top performers in the gym. He is in good shape. I chuckle to myself because that’s what I’ve been telling him to do since he started the program. It only took him 3 years to listen.
Showing up and being consistent is the key. The rest will take care of itself. If you cherry pick workouts, or don’t show up when you think something is going to be hard, you have defeated the purpose. The goal of CrossFit is to expose you to the things you suck at. If you only do the things you are good at, you will eventually stop progressing. If you work on the things you are bad at then you will continually get more fit.
Show up and the rest will take care of itself. If you fear the board, don’t look early. If a member of 3 years feels this way, how do you feel as a newer member? You must make a decision to get better– to show up no matter what. When you embrace the things you are weak at, you will become stronger at them.
Again, just show up! Who knows what you’ll accomplish!
